2008 Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting: Building Up a Righteous Posterity
On Saturday, February 9, a worldwide leadership training meeting was broadcast over the Church satellite system. Online archives are now available in text, audio, and video formats.

Are the training broadcast videos going to be encoded in QuickTime format as well?
Dear LDS Web Guy,
I would have to second the comment above. I thought that the decision was finalized last year that all new content posted on the website was going to be in a cross platform format which included QuickTime for us mac people? I have anxiously been waiting for this to be posted but now I have no video version. Has the decision that was made last year been rescinded?
A third comment for quicktime. I wanted to watch the discussion segment again. Thanks.
Most of you may be aware of this already, but if you are on a mac you can download the free Flip4Mac QuickTime component: http://www.flip4mac.com/download.htm
Which will then allow you to watch either of the Windows media streams in QuickTime.
Lee, I am familiar with flip 4 mac but it does work seemlessly and they charge you money to access all the benefits of the application. The Church IT area had already committed itself last year to cross platform uniformity. Both the Church and BYU sites were very windows-oriented over the past two decades to the exclusion of other platforms. So I am confused as to why they are reverting to using window-only files instead of open source.
I think the only thing different in the paid version is that you can edit the video or export it to different formats, the free version lets you watch it as if you were just watching a regular quicktime video.

It may not be the ideal solution, but it has worked well for me.
Lee, thanks for your suggestion, but the windows media video files do not work with my iPod. I could convert and download the windows media file (and probably will), but the issue is lack of support for mp4.
We plan to create the QuickTime files, but haven’t done so yet. With only 5% of the users of LDS.org on Macs, it has to be a lower priority.
I need to be more patient, thanks!
Dear Lds web guy,
Thanks. But just a curiousity question. If QuickTime is already cross platform, why not make that the standard for all the files?
Michael
Larry,
Thanks for letting us know these are available. I love listening to the Apostles and all Church content.
On a side note, what’s the deal with these file sizes? 1MB per minute? I thought speeches would be 64 Kbps but these are 128. Even with cable broadband it takes quite a while to download these and takes up too much space on my player. No, I don’t need an 80Gig Ipod.
Just wondering if you could clarify the change.
Dear LDS Web Guy,
I don’t want to seem rude or pushy but I am curious to know why you don’t just issue everything in Quicktime if it is already cross platform? It has a good 50% of the market (both PC and Mac ). It is not just about mac users although I am very surprised that you state only 5% of visitors to LDS websites are mac users. BYU alone has about 30% of the student body on macs. Is the 5% an outdated statistic? My ward in Florida has a large number of families with macs.
Just another observation with regard to the comment on Quicktime files. I appreciate all of the work that goes into making these files available and want to say thank you, though I have to question the 5% use Mac proposition. While I won’t argue the Mac usage itself I know that myself and quite a few others in the ward like to have these for viewing on our iPods and considering they own about 75% marketshare in portable players I would think iPod compatible files would be a priority. Thanks for listening and keep up the good work.
