The church failed to post MP3 and Media player files for the Priesthood session. I have yet to hear a rationale for this continuing practice.
Since the priesthood session is a closed meeting, the Church does not provide the audio and video of the meeting to the general public on LDS.org. You can view priesthood sessions on the DVDs and CDs that are available at Church distribution centers.
Until this session if you were/are savvy enough you can get the mp3’s for the priesthood session. The church posts video of the priesthood session in .mov format for deaf individuals with sign language. Until this most recent session the audio was included as part of the video. You could use software to extract the audio form the video and then you had the mp3’s however this session they posted the videos without the audio!
I guess Ill have to start ordering the CD’s.
To get the priesthood session MP3s, borrow someone’s copy of the conference DVDs (maybe your ward library has a copy) and rip the audio using Audacity. You can fit two complete conferences on a MP3 CD. What a great blessing it is to listen to priesthood session with your sons as you drive.
I’ve linked to the conference audio files and text from ScriptureCast.net, a free service I provide to help podcast scriptures and general conference at custom rates. Its not dissimilar to the podcast feeds the Church provides, except my service does rate limiting on the talks while the Church’s feed gives everything at once.
While posting the talks, I found there were a couple of mp3 files that I had troubles reading their embedded mp3 tag information. (I look at the tags to detect audio length for use in rate calculations.) These files with weird meta tag info were: Elder Oaks, Sister Lant, and the audit report.
The Sunday Morning & Afternoon Quicktime videos only work about 20 seconds in and then you get the audio but a black screen after that.
Actually, the only session that works all of the way through is the Saturday Morning session.
Can someone (hopefully ldswebguy) let us know why there is no audio for the priesthood session videos?
We have blind members in our Ward, so the ‘deaf sign language’ is not helpful.
Will there be an ‘audio’ version of the May Ensign?
See my comment above on April 10th. Sorry, but there will be no audio or video of the priesthood session online. You’ll have to get the CDs or DVDs. Sorry. It’s not my decision.
Can anyone explain why only the Saturday AM session works in Quicktime and the rest all have an error?
Thanks for getting them up so quickly. You guys do a great job with that. The little innovations that come each year are also very welcome (RSS etc.). I’m also a little disappointed about the priesthood session having no audio…I get that it’s a closed session… but the text is available. Anyway, thanks.
